Bridging the gap between carbon cycle models and remote sensing

Christian Frankenberg,  Caltech,  cfranken@caltech.edu (Presenter)

How vegetation responds to water stress is a key uncertainty in projections of the carbon sink. We will use a combination of novel remote sensing data to improve detection and prediction of plant water stress. Here, we show advances in measuring and modeling canopy water content, presenting a new GPS-based system to continuously measuring VOD at the field scale, the potential of SWIR reflectance measurements as well as modeling advances in using plant hydraulics to model diurnal and seasonal cycles in leaf and canopy water potentials.
