The aim of the present activity within this GOSAT2 RA project is to investigate the calibration/validation of TANSO-FTS2 spectra in the thermal infrared (TIR) spectral region (B4 and B5 band, V102102). Previously for TANSO-FTS onboard GOSAT, we have performed inter-comparisons of successive versions of L1B products to check the differences and the improvement in the spectral and radiometric calibration of TANSO-FTS spectra in the narrow spectral domain 940-980 cm-1 covering CO2 lines of the so called laser band in the rather clear 10.4 µm atmospheric window that allows sounding down to the lowest atmospheric layers. The period covered was the summer months (July, August, September) and the years from 2010 to 2018. This was purposely chosen for comparison with quasi-coincident soundings of IASI-A and IASI-B over ice free footprints over the Arctic Ocean. Internal comparisons of L1B TANSO-FTS spectra as well as comparisons of the retrieved Tsurf (sea surface temperature or SST) and XCO2 with the corresponding geophysical parameters derived with the same algorithm from IASI-A and IASI-B spectra in quasi-coincidence (time difference less than 1 hr, distance less than 80 km) have been published. We are applying the same methodology for TANSO-FTS2 spectra calibration/validation to infer XCO2 climatology over region where SWIR measurements are rare or nonexistent. The status of this study on the radiometric calibration of TANSO-FTS2 in B5 will be discussed and the derived L2 products will be compared with similar results using TANSO-FTS and IASI.
