We develop a pilot study of regional-scale greenhouse gases (GHGs) inversion system with satellite data to verify the anthropogenic carbon fluxes over the Seoul Capital Area (SCA), Korea. This is a part of efforts to establish the near real time GHGs monitoring and verifying system in Korea including high spatial resolution (1km x 1km) Fossil Fuel CO2 (FFCO2) emissions from artificial intelligence modeling and biogenic fluxes from space (i.e., “Megacity CO2-Seoul” project). In this study, we mainly utilize the fine resolution XCO2 from Orbiting Carbon Observatory 3 (OCO-3) Snapshot Area Maps (SAMs) mode. By integrating WRF-XSTILT inversion system with XCO2 from OCO-3 SAMs, we will show a potential of utilizing fine-scale satellite measurements to estimate the anthropogenic fluxes in urban area. In addition, we will present a first result from the satellite-based verification of FFCO2 emissions in SCA on 2020 summer season.
